This rare Japanese item is a bronze personal temple bell (Kannon) used to call people waiting in the garden to the start of the tea ceremony.  It is hard to say how old our bell is.  It certainly dates to the 19th c. and perhaps earlier.  It is donut shaped (2 3/8" in diameter) and has a an interior ball the circles the interior tract to produce a pleasant and distinctive tone.  It is in excellent antique condition with a wonderful old patina.
