Sanskrit Kammavaca Prayer Book Manuscript Bible 16 Page Antique Gilded
Calligraphy of 16 Total Pages on 8 Double-Sided Lacquer Myanmar Burmese Leaves
from Burma on the Bay of Bengal in Southeast Asia.This set also has has one ci
nnabarcolored support board with well worn gold gilt illustrations which you can
faintlymake out.
In addition to its spiritual relevance and importance with regard to the
history of Burmese Monks and the written language of pali sanskrit, the quality
of craftsmanship and overall condition of this particular manuscript is what
will strike you as being especially nice.
Each sheet, or leaf measures 23" long x 5 3/8" wide x 1/16" thick and is
slightly flexible, with the exception of the one illustrated teak wood mount
board, which is inflexible and used for protection and mounting of the
manuscript. The single cinnabar red painted teak wood mount (in addition to the
eight sanskrit panels) is elaborately hand illustrated with illuminated gold
leaf details. There may have been two of these at one time; a front and a back
cover between which the calligraphic spiritual writings were fastened.

Total lot weight is 2 pounds 15.5 ounces. Individual calligraphy panel weight
is approximately 3.8 ounces. The wooden mount, slightly larger at 23 1/4" long
x 5 1/2 wide, weighs 13.8 ounces, and is nicely finished off with hand beveled
edges. Sanskrit is one of the earliest languages known to man, and is still
consistently taught in writing, and spoken in daily prayer at The School of
Practical Philosophy on 79th Street in Manhattan, NY; a subsidiary of The
London School of Economics.
