THERE IS ONE KNOB FOR SALE. SHOWS THE KNOBS DIMENSIONALLY. THE KNOBS IN ORDER ARE: 100 YEAR OLD ORIGINAL KNOB, THEN POLISHED KNOB, NEXT SATIN FINISHED KNOB, AND FINALLY AN AGED KNOB.

IN THE 2ND PHOTO WE HAVE AN SATIN AGED NEW PRODUCTION MACEY® KNOB (ON THE LEFT
FORCOMPARISON TO THE SECOND KNOB, WHICH IS THE NEW FACTORY RE-RELEASED AGED BURNISHED KNOBS. THEY ARE ESSENTIALLY INDISTINGUISHABLE DIMENSIONALLY WHEN INSTALLED. THE FIRST PHOTO ILLUSTRATES EITHER ONE OF THE KNOBS WITH THE POSTS THAT YOU WOULD BE RECEIVING (YOUR CHOICE). INSTALLATION IS MADE A BREEZE IF THE DOOR IS PER-DRILLED WITH A 5/32" BIT IN A HAND DRILL, AND THEN DRILLED DOWN 3/8". IT MAKES PENETRATING THE 100 YEAR OLD OAK MUCH EASIER. INSTALLED THEY ARE CLOSE TO IDENTICAL TO THE OTHER ORIGINAL KNOBS YOU MIGHT STILL HAVE ON THE CASES. HOWEVER, THERE WERE 3 DIFFERENT KNOB SUPPLIERS THROUGH THE YEARS FROM DIFFERENT VENDORS SO WE CHOSE THE BEST CAST KNOB EVER PRODUCED THAT MATCHES 90% INSTALLED ON THE KNOBS OUT THERE ON MACEY CASES.

For sale: A SINGLE, 1, (ONE) of the NEW PRODUCTION FACTORY RE-RELEASED AGED/BURNISHED OR SATIN FINISHED knob from the actual Globe Wernicke® Macey Corporation (Globe Wernicke® acquired Macey in 1904 and was MACEY-WERNICKE® for a time- see  3rd photo of 1904  factory Macey-Wernicke® ad for reference). THE PRICE IS FOR A SINGLE KNOB IN THE SATIN OR AGED BURNISHED FINISH OF YOUR CHOICE AND SCREW IN MOUNTING STUD. The default knob mailed is the aged/burnished knob unless we hear otherwise from the buyer. In the second photo of the 2 different finishes:  the one on the left is the Satin finish, the second knob is the Aged/Burnished finished knob.THE SATIN KNOB HAS A MORE UNIFORM MATCHING SMOOTH FINISH. THE AGED/BURNISHED KNOBS HAVE VARIATIONS IN FINISH COLOR AND TEXTURE WITH WHAT APPEAR TO BE SMALL IMPERFECTIONS DUE TO AGE. The Satin knob is for more of a clean exacting matched finished look. The Aged/Burnished look just like aged antique originals as reported in feedback from buyers. THESE KNOBS ARE EXACTING TO FACTORY ORIGINALS! The knobs we are offering are one of the most common styles that were used.They measure 9/16" Diameter across the Top, by 7/16" Height projection, by 3/8" across the bottom of the base of the knob.  Macey had 3 original knob styles. We have the other 2 Macey styles currently in the works for re-release.

The quality of material is equivalent/superior to our original 1900 releases. There were about 12 different styles of knobs that were used on our cases throughout the years of production. They came from different suppliers over time, but they were all close to this predominate size knob being offered here. OTHER BOOKCASE KNOBS BEING SOLD TODAY ON EBAY ARE NOT CORRECT!!! REGARDING THE AGING PROCESS.  Many think that the process of getting that perfect aged look of these knobs through Aging and Burnishing is easy. It is NOT. I can't begin to tell you of the hours, money, equipment and injuries invested in getting it right. To get that perfect aged look to your antique Macey Globe Wernicke® stacks we:  start with a Polished knob (2nd Photo for reference), then soak the knob in strong stripper for a week to remove the baked on hardened lacquer finish off. The Polished knobs with their baked hardened lacquer coating will probably never age (SERIOUSLY). Then the knobs are fine wire wheeled, fine cloth high buff wheel polished with compound, cleaned with thinner, then put into the acid aging solution for just exactly the right amount of time. They are then allowed to dry for 24 hours. Next they are wiped down by hand, then lightly Burnished on a high speed cloth buffing wheel (dry) to give that perfect luster Burnished/Aged look OR hand buffed at this point for that Satin look. Because of the exhaustive work involved we perform this process in batches of Fifty knobs at a time. There may be a wait time if we are in between batches. The total process takes about 10 days.  We use these very same Aged/Burnished or Satin knobs on our own inventory of cases. They look fabulous installed and matching in size.The aged/burnished finishes vary just enough to give the entire stack installation a flawless, authentic to original look. Whether it is a 100 year old knob or our new re-released aged/burnished knobsno two finishes are identical. If you want close to identical finishes the satin knobs are the best choice for this or the polished knobs. TheSATIN knobs will not match the finish of an original aged installed knob from 1900. Often the stack units have been "married together" over time as more books were added to the library. That often resulted in a diverse different style of knobs(and aged finish) on different sections. This is picked up by admirers (buyers?) of your stack. We universalize all our stacks and libraries. In our experience the Aged/Burnished or Satin knobs look best on the Oak stacks in Walnut stains (the predominate stain on 80% of all units produced). The Polished brass looks best on the Fumed Oak, Golden Oak, Mahogany stained Oak, True Mahogany and Mahogany stained Birch units. These are all the standard stain options offered by the Globe Wernicke® Macey Corporation.
